Anantha Laxmi Govt Ayurvedic Medical College Warangal (ALGAMC Warangal) is a premier Ayurveda institute in Warangal, India, that has been imparting quality education and healthcare in the field of Ayurveda since 1956. The college was established by Smt. Anantha Laxmi, a visionary and a philanthropist, who wanted to promote the ancient and natural system of medicine. The college is affiliated with Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) and approved by the National Commission for Indian System Of Medicine (NCISM). The college offers a five-year Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) program, which includes a six-month internship at the 100-bedded Teaching Hospital located in the city center. The college has 14 departments that cover all the aspects of Ayurveda, such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, and more. The college has well-equipped laboratories, a comprehensive library, a lush herbal garden, and separate hostels for boys and girls. The college has a highly qualified and experienced faculty that is committed to nurturing the students with both theoretical and practical knowledge of Ayurveda. The college also encourages research and documentation of the ancient Ayurvedic wisdom and its relevance in the modern world. The college also organizes various outreach programs, such as free medical camps, awareness campaigns, and health education, to serve the society and spread the benefits of Ayurveda. The college aims to produce skilled and compassionate Ayurvedic practitioners who can uphold the timeless principles of Ayurveda and make a positive difference in the world.

There are 14 teaching departments as detailed below:
DEPARTMENT OF SAMHITHA SAMSKRITHA & SIDDHANTA
The Sanskrit, Samhita, and Siddhanta department is dedicated to the exploration of the Sanskrit language, the original Ayurveda textbooks, and the core principles that form the foundation of this science. Scholars acquire proficiency in Sanskrit, which is essential for comprehending Ayurveda’s teachings. They develop the ability to understand, read, write, and converse in Sanskrit. They receive instruction and training to read and comprehend the primary Ayurveda treatises such as Ashtanga, Samgraha, Ashtanga Hridaya, Caraka Samhita, and Susrutha Samhita. The fundamental principles that guide the basics of treatment are conveyed through the study of various Siddantas such as Panchamahabhoota Siddhanta, Tridosa Siddhanta, Samanya - Vishesha Siddhanta, and others.
DEPARTMENT OF KRIYA SAREERA
Shareera Kriya, the Physiology department of Ayurveda. It illuminates the complex operations of the human body, forming a connection between age-old knowledge and modern science. Grasping these processes is not only intriguing but also enables you to detect the onset of diseases and facilitate comprehensive recovery. In this department, you’ll gain mastery over the essential rhythm of life, deciphering the intricate coordination of systems that maintain our vitality.
DEPARTMENT OF RACHANA SAREERA
Shareera Rachana is a discipline that explores the human body and mind in terms of their structural standards. This crucial subject is beneficial not only for first-year students but also for all professionals and practitioners. The Shareera Rachana department enables students to experience cadaver dissection and histological studies. It aims to demystify the subject through comparative and correlative studies with contemporary science. Proficiency in Shareera Rachana is crucial for a deeper understanding of Chikitsa principles. It has gained significant attention in the surgical field. Knowledge of applied anatomy equips students to perform an initial diagnosis of diseases.
DEPARTMENT OF SWASTHAVRITTA
The Swasthavrittha department promotes the principles of health and well-being as outlined in Ayurveda and Yoga. It holistically addresses the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of health. This branch of Ayurveda encompasses lifestyle management and dietetics. It also integrates the principles of Naturopathy along with the proven daily and seasonal routines prescribed in the classical Ayurvedic texts.
DEPARTMENT OF DRAVYAGUNA VINJANA
Dravyaguna, a crucial component of Ayurveda, extensively covers the rasa, guna virya, vipaka, and prabhava (pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics) of medicinal herbs. This branch also encompasses the identification, gathering, storage, and conservation of plant-based raw materials. The department’s goal is to impart knowledge about the basic principles of Dravyaguna, as well as the action of drugs according to both Ayurvedic and conventional medical systems.
DEPARTMENT OF AGADATANTRA
Agada Tantra, one of the eight clinical specialties of Ayurveda, focuses on the recognition, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various conditions related to Visha (poison). In this department, students also receive training in Vyavahara Ayurveda (Forensic Medicine) and Vishivaidyaka (Medical Jurisprudence).
DEPARTMENT OF ROGA NIDANA & VIKRUTHI VINJANA
The Department of Roga Nidana & Vikruthi Vinjana is dedicated to the fundamental principles of Ayurvedic pathology. It provides a comprehensive understanding of diseases, aiding in early diagnosis and effective treatment planning. In essence, it focuses on Roga and Rogi Pareekshas.
DEPARTMENT OF KAYACHIKITSA
The Kayachikitsa Department encompasses Manasaroga, Rasayana, and Vajeekarana. It is primarily concerned with the treatment of Shareerika rogas (body-related diseases), ranging from fever to various chronic ailments, addressing them from their root cause. Manasaroga focuses on the treatment of various psychological conditions related to the mind. Meanwhile, Rasayana Chikitsa is dedicated to the rejuvenation of both body and mind, promoting a healthy and long life.
DEPARTMENT OF PANCHAKARMA
The Panchakarma department is a clinical division dedicated to providing high-quality education to students, guided by the principle of “swasthasya swasthya rakshanam aturasya vikara prashanam”. As a super-speciality department within Ayurveda, Panchakarma focuses on various treatment methods such as Vamana (therapeutically induced vomiting), Virechana (therapeutically induced purgation), Basti (therapeutically induced enema – both oil and decoction based), Nasya (therapeutic nasal drops), and Raktamokshana (therapeutic bloodletting). It also covers all types of Bahyasnehana (external oleation therapies) and Swedana procedures (therapeutic sweating procedures), all aimed at thorough and deep cleansing of the body system.
DEPARTMENT OF SALYATANTRA
The Salyatantra Department is committed to offering unique and comprehensive hands-on training to students. The aim is to familiarize them with practical methodologies, distinguish between theoretical and practical aspects, and monitor daily progress.
DEPARTMENT OF SHALAKYA TANTRA
The Shalakyatantra Department is dedicated to comprehending the pathophysiology, diagnosing, and managing diseases that occur above the clavicle, including conditions affecting the eyes, ears, nose, throat, head, and neck. Given that this Ayurvedic branch addresses the most delicate and minute parts, a variety of specialized tools and techniques are employed for diagnosis and treatment.
DEPARTMENT OF KOUMARABHRITYA
The Koumarabhritya Department is committed to enhancing children’s health worldwide, contributing to the betterment of future generations. The department offers both academic and clinical learning experiences about common issues faced by navajatha shishu, Bala, and Kumara, equipping scholars with the skills needed for effective child healthcare. Additionally, the department fosters creative learning, research initiatives, and community health activities.
DEPARTMENT OF PRASOOTHITANTRA & STREE ROGA
Prasuti Tantra and Stree Roga are specialized branches of Ayurveda that focus on women’s health and the treatment of gynecological disorders. Prasuti Tantra primarily deals with aspects of pregnancy, labor, and postpartum care, aiming to ensure a healthy mother and child
1. On the other hand, Stree Roga is dedicated to the management of diseases that specifically manifest in women
2. These two branches are often taught together due to the similarity of their subjects
3. Scholars in these fields gain theoretical and practical knowledge in Ayurvedic Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Pediatrics
4. The ultimate goal is to provide comprehensive care for women at every stage of life, from antenatal to postnatal care, and to address common gynecological problems
DEPARTMENT OF RASA SASTRA & BHAISHAJYAKALPANA
Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana is a branch of Ayurveda Pharmaceutics dealing with the manufacture of quality based metal, minerals and plant based preparations. Medicine being one of the important pillars in the treatment of disease, processing of various dosage forms like tablet, oils, ghee, asava arista, bhasmas, avaleha etc are dealt in this department.
